Water fund financial outcomes providing environmental benefits
Wednesday, April 15, 2020

The Murray-Darling Balanced Water Fund (MDBBWF) continues to deliver, environmental, social and financial outcomes.

As at 31 March 2020 the Fund had provided unitholders with annualised returns since inception of 19% while also delivering much needed water to threatened wetlands in the southern Murray-Darling Basin.

Environmental outcomes from the Fund’s water are optimised through its watering partner the Environmental Water Trust (EWT).

In its recently released environmental impact reports, EWT states that since inception of MDBBWF in October 2015 to 30 June 2019, donations of cash and water has enabled delivery of 3315ML of water to 21 wetlands across Victoria and New South Wales through eight watering events.

These watering events occurred within wetlands considered spiritually and culturally significant to Aboriginal people.

The Murray-Darling Basin is one of the largest and most important river basins in the world. It’s also one of the most vulnerable with many of its ecosystems suffering.

The MDBBWF is the first water investment fund in Australia that provides water to farming families whilst restoring ecologically and culturally significant wetlands and supporting threatened species across the river basin.
